For the next three days, we will immerse ourselves in the incredible Etosha National Park, one of Africa’s premier wildlife destinations. Etosha is renowned for its vast salt pan, which is so large it can be seen from space, and its diverse ecosystems that support a wide variety of wildlife. We will be staying at the Etosha King Nehale lodge, located on the northern boundary of the park, just near the King Nehale Gate. This lodge offers a perfect blend of comfort and proximity to nature, providing an ideal base for exploring the park’s abundant wildlife and stunning landscapes.
One detail that puts Etosha King Nehale over the top is its private access to a secluded waterhole, the Ontalelo Outpost, which is set within Etosha National Park. This exclusive waterhole is reserved for the guests of Etosha King Nehale, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the tranquillity of nature and observe the rich diversity of the animal world in this corner of paradise. From here, we can enjoy uninterrupted views of elephants, lions, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, various antelope species, and many other animals as they come to drink, offering a unique and intimate wildlife experience.
During our stay in Etosha, we will enjoy at least two private game drives, where experienced guides will help us track and observe these incredible animals up close. In addition to the guided drives, we may also have the opportunity to explore the park on our own, allowing us to fully appreciate the breathtaking landscapes and abundant wildlife at our own pace. Etosha offers a truly unique safari experience, where every drive brings new surprises and unforgettable encounters with Namibia’s extraordinary wildlife.

We’ll spend the afternoon and evening exploring the area, including capturing the mesmerizing night sky, renowned for its stunning stargazing conditions. The journey continues and we’ll drive to Walvis Bay, with a stop at the iconic Dune 7—one of the highest and most impressive sand dunes in Namibia. The sheer scale and sweeping vistas of this spot make it a must-see, offering panoramic views and a thrilling climb. Afterward, we'll spend the afternoon exploring the dunes and the Langstrand area, taking in the striking landscapes and enjoying the unique desert environment.
The next two days will fulfill your wildest dreams as we delve into the stunning Sandwich Harbour. We’ll make our way south to Sossusvlei, embarking on a scenic 5-hour drive through rugged terrain. Our first night will be spent at Desert Hills Lodge, a flagship venue perched gracefully on a natural stone outcrop. The lodge offers spectacular views of the desert below and the dramatic Namib sunset, which bathes the lodge and its chalets in a warm, red glow. Each stone-ensconced thatch chalet is designed to offer modern comforts while sparking the imagination with its unique aesthetic. This will be a perfect place to unwind after our drive and perhaps capture some exceptional content with the scenic hills in the background.
The following two nights will be spent at the Sesriem Campsite, ideally located to provide early access to the park and ensure we make the most of our time exploring Sossusvlei. This iconic area is renowned for its towering red sand dunes, some of the highest in the world, creating a breathtaking landscape against the backdrop of a stark, blue sky. The dramatic contrasts and shifting patterns of the dunes offer extraordinary opportunities for photography and exploration.
Just a short drive from Sossusvlei lies Deadvlei, a surreal clay pan surrounded by the tallest dunes in the world. The stark, ancient camelthorn trees set against the white clay and red sand create a strikingly unique scene, perfect for capturing ethereal images in the early morning and late afternoon light.
During our stay at Sesriem, we’ll maximize our time photographing the dunes and landscapes in both the early morning and afternoon light, while also allowing time for relaxation or additional exploration during the day. We'll enjoy BBQs and take advantage of the excellent facilities at the campsite, operated by Namibian Wildlife Resorts (NWR). The Sesriem Campsite is one of Namibia's iconic camping spots, nestled within the breathtaking landscapes of Namib-Naukluft Park, offering an extraordinary camping experience right at the doorstep of Sossusvlei.
To conclude our time in this spectacular region, we’ll enjoy a scenic sundowner drive, soaking in the final views of the desert landscape as the sun dips below the horizon.
-
After breakfast, we’ll begin our journey back to Windhoek. We will return to Galton House, where our adventure first began, to spend our final day together.
In the evening, we’ll come together for a final family dinner, sharing stories, exchanging photos, and reflecting on the incredible experiences we’ve had throughout the trip. This special meal will be the perfect way to conclude our journey, celebrating the memories we've made and the friendships we've formed.
-
Sadly, our journey comes to an end today. We will return our vehicles in the morning. If you have an early flight, we will ensure that the drop-off is arranged for you, making your departure as smooth as possible. Safe travels and farewell until our next adventure!

When packing for Namibia in late May, it's essential to be prepared for a range of temperatures. This time of year falls in the late autumn season, which means that days can be warm, but mornings and evenings can get quite chilly, especially in desert areas. Here are some recommendations on what to bring:
Clothing:
Layered Clothing: The weather can fluctuate significantly between day and night, so bringing layers is crucial. Pack light and breathable clothing for the daytime (such as t-shirts, light long-sleeve shirts, and shorts) and warmer layers for the evening (like sweaters, a fleece jacket, or a windbreaker).
Warm Jacket: Early mornings and nights can be quite cold, especially if you're heading out for early game drives or spending time in the desert. A warm, insulated jacket is a must.
Comfortable Walking Shoes: If you plan on doing any walking or light hiking, sturdy and comfortable shoes are essential. Closed-toe shoes are recommended for added protection.
Hat and Sunglasses: A wide-brimmed hat or cap and a good pair of sunglasses will help protect you from the strong African sun.
Swimwear: Some lodges and hotels may have swimming pools, so bring swimwear if you plan to take a dip.
Scarf or Buff: Useful for keeping warm in the mornings or protecting your face from dust while on safari.
General Stuff:
Sunscreen: The Namibian sun can be intense, even in May, so high-SPF sunscreen is a must.
Insect Repellent: Depending on the area, mosquitoes and other insects can be present. It's always good to have a repellent on hand.
Reusable Water Bottle: Staying hydrated is crucial, especially in dry environments. A reusable water bottle is eco-friendly and convenient.
Binoculars: Ideal for wildlife viewing and enhancing your safari experience.
Personal Medications and Basic First Aid Kit: Bring any necessary medications and a basic first aid kit, including band-aids, antiseptic wipes, and pain relievers.
Travel Adapter: Namibia uses type D and M sockets (the same as South Africa). A universal adapter is a good investment if you have devices from different countries.
Hand Sanitizer and Wet Wipes: These are always useful for freshening up on the go.

In May, Namibia experiences mild and dry weather, with daytime temperatures ranging from 20°C to 25°C (68°F to 77°F) and cooler nights that can drop to 10°C (50°F). This is the start of the dry season, making it an ideal time for wildlife viewing and photography.

Tipping in Namibia is appreciated but not mandatory. It often reflects the quality of service provided. Here are some guidelines:
Private Game Reserves: For guides and trackers in private game reserves, a common tip is around NAD 100–200 per person per day (approximately 5–10 EUR). For lodge staff, a communal tip of NAD 50–100 per person per day (around 2.50–5 EUR) is often recommended, which can be given at the end of your stay.
General Tipping Guidelines: For general services, such as porters or restaurant staff, a tip of around 10% of the bill is customary, depending on the quality of service.
Discretion: Remember that tipping is entirely at your discretion. It should reflect the level of service provided and your own comfort level. There is no obligation to tip if you do not feel it is warranted.
-
Cars will be shared in groups of four, and accommodations will mostly be in groups of two. We’ll make sure you’re comfortable with your travel partner, and there will be opportunities to swap groups during the trip. This flexible arrangement allows everyone to mingle and get to know each other.
-
Malaria prophylaxis is generally not necessary as we’ll be in very dry areas, particularly during the winter months, which are considered malaria-free. However, most international health organizations recommend taking prophylaxis during the wetter months (November to June) just to be safe. Malarone is often considered the best option if you’re concerned, though the risk of malaria is very low, especially in the regions we’ll be visiting. Please consult your Dr. prior to the trip or let us know in case of any questions.
