PAIRING INSPIRATION

How to find the perfect print combination for your space.

Fine-art prints work well as a single design piece as well as combining them in pairs or groups of images. All prints in this store are carefully selected to ensure they can easily be combined to create a versatile art piece in your space.

There are several different approaches to this. I hope this quick guide will help you to find the most suitable combinations and make a decision you are happy with for a long time.

STEP ONE - EXAMINE THE ROOM

First you need to carefully look around the space and pay attention to free spaces (walls), the size of these spaces, other objects in the room and most importantly colors. If you have high walls in this room you might want to put a pair of extra large prints next to each other or several medium-sized prints at different heights. If the walls are dark you might want to go for a combination of bright prints and strong colors.

It is important to find a good combination with the furniture and the overall look of the room. If the room has a warm feeling to it and there is lots of sunlight during the day, a print with warm tones might fit perfectly to give your space the final touch you have been looking for. Generally, you want to find the right balance between colors and tones and the overall look of your space. Personally, I like when a print blends in with the rest of the visual elements in the room and serves as a minimalist and visually pleasing addition to the already existing design.

STEP TWO - CREATE PAIRS OR COMBINATIONS

The essential aspect of this is to use strong contrast between colors, light and dark tones and the visuals itself. You want to create pairs that fit together, but are still different. For example, you could place a bright print like “Peaking Through” next to a darker one like “The Fall”. They both got a very similar color palette yet one print has a bright and uplifting feel to it while the other features a moody look that makes you experience the force of nature.

Choosing images that have a minimalist look together will definitely feel more natural in your space. The same thing you could do with different colors. Let’s take a look at “Into the Unknown” in combination with “Lonely Cabin”. There are completely different colors in these images, but they got a similar feeling. Both look rather moody and cold, there is no bright sunlight and even though you find orange and yellow in there, they still don’t feature warm tones.

There are several ways to combine prints and it definitely depends on personal preference. You could probably philosophize hours about this topic, but in the end creating contrast between print combinations is the key takeaway.

STEP THREE - COMBINE DIFFERENT SIZES

Once you have selected the colors and tones you want to build into your space the next thing you could approach is finding combinations of different print sizes.

This is definitely the most advanced part of this whole process. One of my favourite suggestions is to put all three different sizes (medium, large and extra large) close to each other so the prints act as a bigger art piece together. The learning from step two comes in handy at this point as it is even more important to have a clear contrast between the visuals. This will ensure a clean and minimalist look.

Another possibility is to have one extra large print surrounded by multiple medium-sized prints. Here the extra large print serves as a main visual while the smaller prints help to tell a story. Again, this comes down to personal preference and of course the look your space has already. You definitely can get creative here.
